The concept behind this work is that on the internet we, as a society, are voyeurs. We look at other peoples personal, private information through the internet. However, people have become aware of the consequences of putting so much information through prying, themselves.
The internet is the ultimate place to be a voyeur, to stalk people, to learn to meet people, to communicate and to be a part of a community. With the surveillance technology of today all of our actions are being monitored. Data is being collected every time we log on, use the phone or use an ATM. But today this data is not just being collected, its being analysed, searched, mined, recombined and traded, within and between organisations. There are approximately 4.2 million cctv cameras in the U.K. making it the most watched country in the world. Privacy however is not dead. It is of the utmost importance to anyone on the internet today. Privacy is not about the information that is shared anymore, it is more about who can see and use the information.
In order to highlight this voyeurism, the artist is depicted during an emotional breakdown in this video. The Artist uses several screens in order to highlight just how simple it is for anyone to get a hold of this private data. We can be left as exposed as the artist is here if we are not careful. The internet can be a very informative and useful environment however it can also expose you to the world.
