There is no definite statistic for the amount of people that are homeless in Britain or for the people that are living below the poverty line, whether this is down to a lack of interest or just a difficult situation to calculate and investigate it is unsure. Britain is known as one of the richest and most developed countries in the world and yet there is still a lot of poverty present and there are still homeless people living on the streets and in unacceptable living arrangements. There is a high level of ignorance to poverty in Britain and not a lot of people can look it honestly in the eye.
This project developed from a complaint made about a certain group of homeless people living underneath a multi story car park where deliveries are made to various stores. At the moment there are two ‘huts’ that have been handmade by the homeless people to provide a sleeping area and somewhere to keep their belongings. This project focuses on two women who regularly scavenge through the bins to find food that has been thrown out by the stores. They usually visit these bins three or four times a week at the same time and leave with six or more bags filled with out of date food. It is unsure whether these people are homeless or not, however there must be a reason for them to go into a bin to retrieve food.
