In the modern age, there is a new form of light in the visual language. Like its predecessors it casts a strong mood in the scene, but it is this light that is one of the hardest to capture.
The eerie blue of the computer screen.
Computers are highly interesting; they connect us to the world through the Internet. However, whilst we are connected to the whole world in Cyber Space our physical bodies become shells, showing only the slightest emotion, which can transform into something, far more powerful and phenomenal in the Cyber world.
This apprehension of emotion is reflected by the angle of the webcam we are most often seen through online. It is always the same perspective; it never changes. This is a preset of the Internet culture. The low quality image produced by a webcam creates a subtle, dream-like portrait that we project to those we interact with online but this is not how we truly look, desensitising us to the true human form. This piece attempts to offer a ‘truthful’ account of how we actually look in these moments.
