What’s My Age Again?
In Britain we are captured by CCTV on average up to 300 times a day. Based on this statistic this body of work focuses on the policeman’s stereotype of a juvenile delinquent, the main contributor to this stereotype being the choice of clothing.
The 'hoodie/ chav attire' creates a masked gateway to initiate juvenile acts on society.
This series uses the stereotype of desired clothing and contrasts it with the vulnerability of an elderly figure in society. This strange blend of elderly and young together in the images serves as a tool to highlight the point the artist is trying to make. That it is not young people that should be targeted as a problem in society today but rather the chosen attire.
The subjects face has been covered by black material in the photographs to illustrate that there can be no general stereotype to fit this attire. However, for those who look carefully, the hands are still visible to show that it is only the items of clothing instilling fear in our environment, not the youths we choose to blame.
